she is a good dog but we never ever ever want to be without a LSG dog again. we need back up and we want replacements in the future. great pyranees, in my humble opinion, are the greatest dogs ever bred. people that have had bad experiences with them haven't gotten them young enough or haven't given them an interesting job.

Great photos... nice to see how things are 'over there'. You did blow my cuteness socks off... the only experience I have with those horse-sized dogs is them rushing up to my driver's side window when I'm rolling down the backroads. I'm sure you have more interesting things for them to do. :)

Reminds me of last year when there were 2 little girls about that size at my house. They are huge now. I was just out doing a last bedtime check on everyone and brushed a pile of hair off my two. They are shedding their winter coats finally.
They are wonderful! If we had our property fenced in, we would have pyrenees pups in an instant again. Enjoy!
They're gorgeous. One day I'll be settled enough and in a place that I can have dogs. Hope they are all getting on well together.

I'd love a dog/dogs like that but I have a couple questions. (This is assuming that that they stay outside all the time.)
If you do leave them out by themselves do they cry for you at nite, meaning are they lonely at first? Also, do they bark all night? I would love to have one but if they cried for me as a puppy they would end up in the house and that kinda defeats the purpose. Also, I'm a light sleeper and sometimes my geese start squawking at night and then they cause the inside dogs to bark so I could imagine the noise all night.

beth, our dogs live outside of the immediate house yard. eventually they can get into the yard but know better. dogs are never indoors at our house. our dogs are expected to work for their board. they can't do all of their expected duties if they spend time in the house or yard for that matter. our expectations are high for our animals and that takes work initially, then i can rest on my laurels. yes GP's bark at everything, butterflies and dust motes included. mostly it is a warning bark and we have gotten used to that comforting sound. then there is the alert bark distinctly different. that is when i get up to check things out.

jo, ianto was always queued for our next boy LSGD. jack was just the (almost too) obvious choice.

oh WOW, love love love the Pyr pups!! Our cousins have two on their farm out with their sheep and the warm weather pastured poultry moveable cages ...and love them. If we ever have a property with animals we'll for sure have LGDs. At this point we have our very beloved Australian shepherd specifically because we each spend a lot of time on different shifts and I in particular wanted a companion dog that would be good indoors and also with animals if we get them down the road. The only problem with Kaleb, and it's not really a problem at this point, is that he can't stand any other big dogs. If we do get others down the road in time, we'll go the route of pups and hopefully that'll keep the peace. Your pups and Astrid are so lovely! Love the names, and of course I'm partial to Jack ;-)
PS are the kids growing by leaps and bounds or what? Rome doesn't look like a baby any more!

Love your dogs i've been reading all about your fam for so long and fell in love with Henry. I really want to find a GP but im worried about them roaming. we only live on 2 acres and im worried it will get bored and roam or jump the 5 ft. fences, what jobs do u need to give them other than gurding the Live stock? we only have 46 chickens and a few goats, and 3 lil toddlers, do GPs ever trample the kids? and do u feel they are a family dog as well as the greatest LSGD. you guys so inspire us to live a better life im soo happy u guys blog.lol,neely in cali

We just got our own Jack, he's 4 and grew up with goats (which is perfect for his job here). He is worth his weight in gold. We're looking for another as we also don't want to be without an LGD again!
Karl, they are adorable. Do you have issues with your neighbors and the barking of the dogs? That is my biggest concern when I think about getting a LGD. I had a neighbor who insisted I butcher my rooster who crowed before 7 AM on weekends. I can't imagine what he'd do about dogs that barked in the night! Is there a site you recommend where I could learn more? Thanks. Selden (from KFC)
woody, puppies and kids there is nothing better.
robbyn, we love our dogs but they are not companions. GPs are incredibly aloof and most training must involve their natural instincts. a puppy would likely be the best way to increase your pack.

farrell, mostly they are kept with the animals at night with enough space to feel like they are patrolling their boundary. they are great with kids. we monitor their early interactions and encourage proper manners. trampling is not allowed... mostly the dogs are the lowest in the hierarchy of all the farm. if they even slightly start to exhibit dominance over even a lowly chicken they get pushed on their back and the offended animal is held on top of the submissive dog. this shows the dog that this animal inherits hierarchy from me and that they are expected to respect that. foremost the dogs look to me as alpha without question.

duane, LGDs are wonderful for the farm.
selden, our neighbors ears must ring all night from all the gun fire that they practice. GPs bark at everything. your neighbor will hate you if you get one. we love the deep rumble of barking. it is like being wrapped in a warm blanket. there are alarm barks that warrant closer inspection. mostly they are defining their boundary through barking and it works.
