the long line was grueling.
we did a drive by 1:00pm and saw the line and decided that we'd better get in line.
they didn't start letting us in until 6:30pm
barack obama didn't get there until 9:45pm.
it was amazing. we felt like we had to take the kids. if people knew in advance that they could see martin luther king or jfk they would have jumped at the chance. our kids can forever say that they were there, part of history.
the kids were exceptionally behaved considering the long long wait. we really felt like were part of something bigger than us all. everyone was hopeful, positive and energized. what a wonderful experience.

What a great opportunity for everyone! You hit the nail on the head, though if it were anybody of Obama's caliber, it would have been exciting and memorable. But, this will be historical.
When they are older enough to really appreciate the magnitude of your field trip, they'll be grateful and in awe.

My husband and son were part of the 100,000 in St. Louis several weeks ago. They too said it was a once in a lifetime event -- a coming together of humanity filled with hope for the future. It is long overdue after the last eight pathetic, disgraceful years.
Awesome! We took the kids to see Obama during the primaries. It was a long wait but worth it. It is amazing to see people so inspired.
I've never heard Tabitha's voice.
I was able to shake Obama's hand when he stopped at our town before the first in the nation caucus. Feels like years ago now and it sadly isn't too far off the mark. Back then, there were only about 1000 show up at the park to hear him and in a town of 10,000 souls, I should have realized how big that number actually was. If he wins, it will be the first president I have seen or shook hands with. He at least had a good grip.

My son and his girlfriend were part of the 75,000 who saw Obama in Kansas City. Libby and I were at Roundrock last Saturday afternoon -- most of the way to Springfield -- and we seriously considered going down there to be part of history. Sounds like it would have been a long night for us.
I'm glad you took your kids (but what else would you have done with them?).I don't think it is ever too early to instill the sense of connection, involvement, and responsibility we all have in our communities.

pablo, our kids go with us most everywhere, with very rare exceptions that i can count on one hand. mostly though we went to the rally because of them. we want them to care and be involved for the rest of their lives. it can be an attachment to history that they'll remember forever.
I had the opportunity to go Sunday night but didn't think the children would make it through. I would really love to try to make this inauguration though. How amazing would that be?
