i'm ready for my closeup

it is so funny how different each child is from the others. kassi is in a constant state of dress-up. her day consists of one huge costume change. she is quite good at creating ensembles. the veil was something from the towel cupboard. it was the starting point of her outfit. everything else was neatly assembled to match and complement it.

at least she has stopped going out with mismatched shoes. when i'd ask her about her lack of matching shoes she'd reply "i couldn't decide, so i wore both."

toly and tristan are much more similar to each other--being boy and all. although toly is much more affectionate than any of the kids. he'll come up to us and hug us for no reason at all--long tight hugs that seem to last forever.

tristan is the outgoing one. he is extremely confident, articulate and engaging. we were supposed to start a daily chess regimen. the chessstore has sold out the set that i want. i spent hours searching online chess stores for the perfect set. i finally made the perfect choice. a set that is of substantial size. it is weighted so the pieces won't topple easy. the set design is of a classic style for easy recognition. most importantly it is beautiful. the one unusual thing about it is the pieces are burgundy and cream.

they said that they are expecting delivery within two months. the crappy thing is they are still offering it as "in stock" at their website. it makes me mad but i've decided to wait.

Thanks for the well wishes for Joe. I'm sorry you all are sick too. My father taught us chess at an early age as well. Have fun!

You should quickly progress him up to that three-dimensional chess of Star Trek or even Wizard's Chess from Harry Potter.

Good luck with that.

danielle,
yeah mine too. i was seven or eight when he taught me. by the time i was thirteen i could easily beat him--we didn't play much after that.

pablo,
the funny thing is i used to have one of those 3-d chess sets. i still recall most of the rules. tristan really wants to play wizards chess. maybe there will be a holograph style chess like in starwars in the near future.

So I'm wondering if you are purchasing your chess set from the same company I am... I was told the set I wanted is backordered two months too! I never learned how to play, and it has been so very rewarding to have the boys actually teach me how!

You have a wonderful family (love the pics) and I've had a great time this morning perusing your blog, and hope you'll visit mine and wave hello too!

Over on my Sugar Mountain Farm blog on the Will Cut Wood For Heat post you mentioned chain saw sharpening.

Interesting to know about the Dremmel. We have one. What bit are you using?

I currently use a pair of files (round & flat) which is pretty quick.

I also always carry a spare sharp chain and have four more hanging on a hook ready to come into play. Just swapping chains can sometimes be the solution when out working.

Cool tool, Karl. Price is right too. Thanks for the pointer.

As to your change change vs sharpening, it's a challenge! I can change chains in under a minute and that includes doing a retightening which should be done periodically.

However, I bet the Dremmel is faster than me with a hand file! I have a battery operated Dremmel tool so I'm going to get that bit you suggested.

Cheers,

-Walter

Thanks Karl for the head's up... I was not fond of the co. after speaking with the customer service.

I've got my eyes peeled for a local shop/store to find that perfect chess board.

Looking... :-)

Carla
